Connecting People And Nonprofits To Inspire Kindness

Connect Kindness

In July 2018, Krystal Aziz and Tim Evans launched Connect Kindness with a mission of connecting people with nonprofit organizations to inspire kindness. By featuring organizations and events on their website, social media, and podcast, they created a platform for people to easily give back in their communities and around the world.

Krystal and Tim both work full-time in the travel industry and run an award winning travel agency, Modern Travelworks, in Houston, TX. Tim founded Modern Travelworks in 2006 and serves as the President, while Krystal joined the company in 2016 and serves as the Director of Operations. Both Krystal and Tim had the desire to help others and would often have conversations on things they could do to give back, but it wasn’t until two impacting experiences pushed them to take the next step.

Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, TX on August 25, 2017 and left a trail of destruction through its path. Modern Travelworks' office was underwater for almost a week and Krystal and Tim’s family and friends' houses were flooded. People from all over the country came to Texas to help and give back to people in need. A majority of volunteers didn’t have a place to stay or a plan, but they had the desire to help. These experiences stuck with Krystal and Tim and fueled them even more to give back.

A few months passed and Krystal went to New York City for New Years. Krystal was born and raised in the Bronx and has always had an affinity for the city, but this visit felt different to her. As she walked down the street towards Times Square, she felt emotions rush over her. She would look up in amazement at the massive skyscrapers but then look down to street level and see so many homeless people.

When Krystal returned to Houston, she shared her experience with Tim and they began to brainstorm how they could work together to give back. The two of them went back and forth with ideas, but landed on something that Krystal had been doing in her spare time. Krystal had started posting nonprofit organizations to her social media accounts that she thought were making a huge difference. Krystal wanted her friends and family to be aware of problems that people faced in the world; the poverty, the illnesses and so much more. That was the moment that Connect Kindness was born.

The idea was to create a website and a podcast where they featured nonprofits and make it as easy as possible for people to take the next step in making a difference. They focused on three actions to help bridge this gap…SHARE, GIVE & DO. They encourage others to SHARE featured organizations through their personal social media, GIVE a donation directly to the featured organization’s website or DO what matters to the individual and volunteer their time. Krystal and Tim would arrive early to the office for six months to work on Connect Kindness and prepare for their launch in the summer of 2018.

As of November 2020, Connect Kindness has featured over 200 nonprofits on their website and recorded 46 podcasts. Connect Kindness is a passion project for Krystal and Tim, as this is currently a pro-bono project. But, their goal for 2021 is to become a nonprofit by obtaining their 501c3 status and look into other areas where they can make an impact and support the nonprofit community.

Krystal and Tim believe that there are so many people in this world who want to help, but they just don’t know where to start. This is why they built Connect Kindness.
